Today was the day we set off for Florida.
We meant to leave by around 12.30pm so that we could stop on the way and still get to the hotel before dark, but such fine intentions almost never actually happen.
It was quite a while after that when we did finally get on our way. On checking for the best route, Google Maps suggested using the A1, M11 and the M25 clockwise over the Elizabeth Crossing at Dartford rather than the M1 and the M25 anti-clockwise. That was OK to begin with and we found a nice McDonalds on the M1 just before we were to join the M25.
That was our first chance to enjoy the newly offered 9-nugget meal and it as worth the wait. So then it was on to the M25 and it soon degenerated into the usual car park around London, apparently all down to a few minor collisions on the way but, as we know from bitter experience, it doesn't need much to cause considerable disruption which can then take ages to clear.
Eventually we got to the Dartford Crossing and over the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and on to the quieter southern side of London. We got to the hotel after 7pm, turned round for a pizza pick up and then it was off to bed ready for the big travel day ahead.
